If you have joined Yuku after using another system, you may use some terms differently than we do on Yuku.
Here at Promote we use the following terms:
Board - you may also see community or domain used. A board is the same as a group on MSN.
Each board can be subdivided into smaller units; categories and forums.
http://promote.yuku.com is the url for the board.
Category - a grouping of similar forums. For example, Home and Family is one category at Promote.
Boards may have all the forums in a single forum or they may have many categories.
Forum - a forum is made up of topics. Yuku Land is a forum. On MSN they used the term boards. On Yuku forums can have one level of subforums.
Topics - also known as threads. This is where the actual posting takes place. The first post in a topic is the lead and all the other posts are the replies.
To find a board at Promote you can search in three ways.
Don't forget to give kudos to the threads of boards that you really like to let others know that it's a good board.
In addition to giving kudos, you may want to reply and let the owner know what you like about their board. I know that they will appreciate it, but they'd really love it even more, if you would post on their board. After all the whole idea of advertising at Promote is to find new members.
You can sort the topics in a forum. This can be nice when you want to browse a forum that has several pages.
Click on "Topic Title" over the first column.
This sorts the forum by the topic title A-Z (numbers and special characters will be first). If you click Topic Title again, the topics will be re-sorted Z-A
Let's say that you what to look for a topic started by someone you know or you want to find a topic by a random interesting username. Click on "Author". This sorts the topics A-Z by username of the person who started the topic. Again, clicking again resorts Z-A
If you click on "Replies", the topics are sorted by the number of replies the topic has, starting with the most replies down to the least. Click again to reverse the order.
"Views" and "Kudos" work the same way.
"Last Post" sorts by the date/time stamp of the last post in the topic. If the forum is set for default ordering, the most recent post will be at the top and clicking last post will re-order so that the oldest topic is first. If the board has the ordering for the forums set another way (such as A-z), then clicking once puts the newest first and the second click puts the oldest first.
