Use your status updates to post links to interesting topics on your board.

Create a business/fan page for your board. http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php

I recommend that you turn off the discussion tab. The idea is to get people to your community, plus anything posted on the discussion page @ facebook, will have real names. Most people like message boards because they are somewhat anonymous. :)
Once you have your page set up, be sure and click on the "Become a fan" link and post the link to the page on your board and encourage your members to become fans as well.
When a person becomes a fan, all of their friends will see a suggestion to be a fan. So the more people who become a fan, the greater the number of people who are exposed to the existence of your community.
Now you can post status updates on the page. These updates will go out to all of the fans and appear on their home page news feed.
These updates will have one link that personal status updates don't have, share.
When share is hit, the update is posted on the news feeds of that person's friends. :) Again more exposure.
You want to find a good balance for status updates, too frequently and people will hide the updates from their news feeds or remove themselves as friends.
You can add other facebook pages as favorites for your page.

The page will be added to your page just like on a profile page.
